When you’re a marketing you spend a good majority of your time trying to understand people and what motives them. The best way to get to know someone is to put yourself in their shoes. What makes them smile? What upsets them? More importantly what gets their attention… These are questions that we are constantly working on. That’s not the first stage though. The first question is; who are they? Who are they, where are they, what “drives” them, when are they “driving, why do they even “drive” anywhere? And so on and so forth…

Marketing Made Me a Better Person Continued…

As a marketer you can’t start fishing until you open up this can of worms. I’d like to believe that most of us have the ability to empathize with other. You and I know that’s not entirely true but we’ll save that for another blog, lol.

I use to use the art of persuasion to get myself out of trouble or to get what I wanted. It wasn’t until I was a marketer that I was able to see the difference between persuasion and manipulation. P.s. there is a great book by Arlene Dickenson that breaks down the difference between these two things beautifully.

Through my growth as a marketer I’ve come to learn the power of time. This is how I see it; manipulation is a short term answer. Why? Because manipulation is design to get you what you want and doesn’t consider anyone else’s needs. You may get what you want once or twice but that is short lived. Persuasion is a long term answer. Persuasion forces you to find a beneficial goal for everyone involved or affected by the choices being made. If you help others you help yourself.

Don’t get me started with what this did for my anxiety… actually my next blog will be on how anxiety made me a more empathetic human.

I’m keeping this one short. Thank you for taking the time to read it and if you enjoy my blogs let me know or share them with someone you think would enjoy it as well.

Peace Sirs and Mams![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
